Part 2: Shadows of the Dark Moon

Shadows of the Dark Moon

The sun was barely above the treetops, casting long, thin shadows across the Silver Crescent Pack grounds. I walked beside Jeremiah, our steps crunching on the gravel path, trying to shake off the lingering unease from last night’s nightmare.

“I don’t get it,” I muttered, pulling my jacket tighter. “Why do I keep dreaming about the crash? It’s like… it’s alive. Like it’s trying to tell me something.”

Jeremiah glanced at me, his brow furrowed. “You’ve been through this for two years, Kennedy. Maybe it’s just… trauma. Your brain replaying the worst moment over and over.”

I shook my head, frustrated. “No. It’s different now. It doesn’t feel like just memory. I can smell the smoke before it even happens, I can feel the impact before—before it hits. Something’s wrong.”

He stayed silent, studying me, his expression unreadable. Then he reached out, brushing a loose strand of hair from my face. “Whatever it is, we’ll figure it out. I promise. You’re not alone in this.”

I wanted to believe him. I really did. But there was a weight in my chest, a tension I couldn’t shake.

Later that afternoon, the tranquility of the pack grounds was shattered by news that made every wolf and human in the area hold their breath.

“The Dark Moon Pack Alpha is coming.”

Even Beth’s usually calm voice held a note of caution.

Jeremiah stiffened beside me. “Ryker?” he asked, disbelief lacing his tone.

Beth nodded. “He’s been… unpredictable lately. You know his reputation. Feared by some, respected by others, but always… untouchable. The fact that he’s coming here means business.”

I felt a flutter in my stomach—not fear exactly, but something close. Ryker had always been an abstract figure to me, a legend whispered about by pack members. Powerful, untamed, utterly dangerous. And now he was coming into my world.

“Why here?” I asked.

Beth’s lips pressed into a thin line. “You don’t know everything, Kennedy. Some things… are better left until you’re ready. But trust me—this isn’t just a social visit.”

I exchanged a glance with Jeremiah. He looked just as concerned as I felt. Protective, cautious, and unwilling to show the fear he was clearly trying to hide.

The next evening, the Dark Moon Pack Alpha arrived.

He stepped from the black SUV with the presence of a storm—tall, broad-shouldered, dark hair falling just above piercing amber eyes that seemed to see right through you. Even from a distance, I felt the air change, heavy with tension and unspoken rules.

Jeremiah instinctively moved closer to me, subtly positioning himself between Ryker and me. My stomach twisted at the sight of him.

Ryker’s gaze swept over the Silver Crescent Pack grounds, and for a moment, it landed on me.

I froze.

There was recognition there—not human recognition, but something deeper. Something primal.

Beth stepped forward, her voice steady but her hand subtly resting on her pendant. “Ryker. Thank you for coming. Please… make yourself at home.”

Ryker’s eyes didn’t leave mine. “I didn’t come here for tea,” he said, voice low, dangerous, and magnetic all at once. “I came because someone has… drawn my attention.”

A shiver ran down my spine. I tried to look away, but I couldn’t.

Jeremiah gripped my arm. “Stay calm,” he murmured.

I nodded, though my body felt frozen.

For reasons I didn’t understand yet, I knew one thing clearly: my life was about to get a lot more complicated.

And Ryker… Ryker was at the center of it.

End of Part 2

If you want, I can continue with Part 3, where Ryker’s presence begins to stir tension between him and Kennedy, introducing mystery, supernatural rules, and hints of the mate bond.
